Ageing

Ageing is something which comes to us all and, no matter how we try to avoid it, ageing will get to us sooner or later. There are certain things you can do to help yourself prolong any signs of ageing by changing the way you live.

With age our body alters inside and outside unfortunately it is inevitable and ageing is something a lot of us dread, even if we don't all admit it.

There are many changes we can make to our lifestyle which won't stop the process of ageing but can help and improve the way we age.

One of the most obvious signs are Lines and wrinkles which are caused because the skin produces less collagen, which is the springy elastic stuff under the skin which keeps us looking young and the skin nice and taut.

Good Foods/Drinks:

  • Oily fish
  • Nuts
  • Seeds - can boost skin moisture levels.
  • Avocados - contain vitamin E
  • Water - key to moisture skin and hydrates the entire body.
  • Brightly coloured veggies - antioxidants such as vitamins A,C,E flavonoids and CoQ10 can all be found in coloured veggies helps in the battle against lines and wrinkles.

Supplements:

  • Vitamin C – the production of collagen needs vitamin C, plus they may contain bioflavonoids which are great for ageing. Also prevents free radical damage and reduces the adverse effects of sunlight.
  • Vitamin E - antioxidant.
  • Fish Oils - helps moisturise the skin from within.
  • Selenium - helps with the skins elasticity.
  • Folic Acid - plays a central role on cell metabolism, it rejuvenates skin cells from the inside.
  • Vitamin A - improves signs of ageing. Creams containing vitamin A work by improving the top layer of the skin. Cell production and collagen are increased giving better skin structure.
  • Soy - can improve skin pigmentation and improve the skins moisture levels. This is new research and is ongoing.

Alternative Remedies:

  • Acupuncture
  • Anti-wrinkle injections
  • Facial Peels

How to help yourself:

  1. Don't smoke
  2. Exercise
  3. Clean up your diet and don’t overeat
  4. Majority of wrinkles are caused by exposure to the sun - the sun breaks down collagen and dries the skin out.
  5. Incorporate a moisturiser into your skin routine with factor 15.
  6. Moisturise a lot when the skin is dehydrated it causes signs of ageing.
  7. The earlier you start to help yourself the better.
