Co Q 10 (Co Enzyme Q10)
|
What is it? |
Co Enzyme Q10 (CoQ10), also called as Ubiquinone as it is a widespread distribution in the body, is a powerful antioxidant. It encourages oxygen uptake and may help improve energy production in muscle cells. It helps protect the nervous system, cell membranes and cholesterol level.
The 2 key roles are energy production and a strong antioxidant.
Antioxidant: It works by protecting cell membranes from damage from everyday pollutions. It prevents lipid peroxidation which is due to antioxidant effects.
Energy: It is required in all cells and in particular the heart to produce energy.
|
What would I take it for? |
Co Enzyme Q10 is a well done known supplement and its uses are both wide and varied.
This is a supplement that is overall great for health and wellbeing. With age we naturally lose more CoQ10 from our cells, hence energy drops - feel more lethargic. Although amounts can come from food a supplement may be needed to ensure you get enough into your body daily. As well as reducing the risk of heart conditions.

|
How can it help my training? |
If you suffer from tired and weak muscles this is a sign that you could be lacking. Some athletes experience COQ10 depletion durting training.
Scientists from Selcuk University School of Medicine in Turkey found that men who took 100mg a day of CoQ10increased performance during repeated sprints on a stationary bike increasing peak power and perception to fatigue compared to when taking a placebo.
A Japanese stody found that taking 100 or 300mg improved performance: reducing perception of fatigue during interval training and intense endurance exercise.
To help you build muscle and increase muscle mass you need to be on top form when you are training. CoQ10 could help during recovery and in the long run help maintain better health and consistency with weight training.
