Chromium

What is it?

Our bodies actually contain less than 6mg of Chromium, it is found mainly in our kidneys, spleen, liver and muscles and, although it is such a small amount, it is essential. The purpose of chromium is for blood sugar level control, but it can also help maintain cholesterol. It is also well known for helping weight control, as it helps curb sugary cravings; a lot of people tend to crave sweets after meals or during the afternoon when energy levels dip, and this helps rid those sugary urges.

What would I take it for?

  • 200mcg has been known to raise the good HDL which helps keep arteries unclogged so in the future it is lowers risk of heart disease, diabetes and strokes.

  • beef

How can it help my training?

Chromium may have the ability to increase lean muscle gain and help with fat loss.

Is there any other information I need to know?

  1. Protein, wholegrain fruit and vegetables help to absorb the chromium.

2.       Tea and coffee hinder the absorption.

Ways of taking it

  • Chromium is usually sold in tablet form (they are usually quite small round tablets).
  • There are usually small amounts of chromium found in multivitamins.
  • It is also found in some weight management/fat burners for example Inferno 2

How much should I take and when?

The Department of Health advises 25mcg a day, although it is sold as a single in amount of 100-200mcg a day.

Although in can be bought in various amount it is commonly sold in amount of 100mcg or 200mcg tablets.

We would advise to take it in the morning with breakfast so this will allow your body to absorb it and help control any sugary cravings from throughout the day.

Adverse Effects:

  • Although you can take up to 100-200mcg, from research undertaken, this amount may not work for everyone some people have been known to take up to 400mcg for it take effect. But be careful and talk to a professional before taking higher doses.
