Amino Acids

What is it?

Amino Acids are at the centre of building protein, hence the reason we eat protein is an essential requirement for amino acids. They are classed as two types 'essential' and 'non-essential' (as listed below). Both classes of amino acid are used as hormones, nutrient carriers, enzymes, antibodies and neurotransmitters.

Muscle fibre damage is caused from training, which can cause inflammation and soreness. It would be advisable to take the Aminos directly after training to reduce the recovery time as well as repairing body tissue, promoting muscle mass and strength.

There are two groups of amino acids: Essential and Non-Essential

The 9 Essential Amino Acids

  • Histidine
  • Lysine
  • Tryptophan
  • Phenylalanine
  • Methionine
  • Valine
  • Isoleucine
  • Threonine
  • Leucine
These are essential because the body does not produce them on its own, they need to be incoporated into your daily diet.

The non-essential amino acids:

  • Alanine
  • Arginine
  • Asparagine
  • Aspartic Acid
  • Cystine
  • Glutamic Acid
  • Glutamine
  • Glycine
  • Proline
  • Serine
  • Tyrosine

How can Amino Acids help my training?

Amino Acids can help an intense workout for bodybuilders and weight lifters because it increases the rate of protein synthesis and decreases rate of protein breakdown.

They could also help speed up the recovery for more serious injuries such as fractures or even broken bones.

Amino Acids are found in protein powders and can be taken as a tablet form.
