Tyrosine
What is it?
Tyrosine is an amino acid it, is produced in the body from phenylalanine.
It is a precursor of the neurotransmitters epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine, which are all important in the brain and transmits nerve impulses and prevents depression.
It is helpful in suppressing the appetite and reducing body fat. Tyrosine is known to help reduce stress, tiredness/fatigue, and anxiety and as previously mentioned depression, hence it may keep you more alert.
Where does it originate/where would it be found?
It is found in:
- soy products
- chicken
- turkey
- fish
- peanuts
- almonds
- avocados
- bananas
- Dairy products milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese
- lima beans
- pumpkin seeds
- sesame seeds
What would I take it for?
- Anti-depressant
- Suppresses appetite
- Enhance mental alertness
- Anti-stress
How can it help my training?
Working as an appetite suppressant, Tyrsine will curb the amount you eat, it will also give you a 'feel good factor' so may encourage you mentally pre and post training to help keep you positive; plus it can keep you alert during training which in turn may help improve stamina during your training session.
Where can I buy it?
It is found in Branch chain amino acids, and some fat burners such as Inferno 2. It can also be purchased on its own.
Ways of taking it:
Comes in a tablet form or may be found in protein powders.
How much should I take and when?
Ideally, we would recommend taking it in morning with food to help the absoption and it can keep you more alert for the day.
Anything else I need to know?
Tyrosine levels decrease with age, low levels have been noticed in patients with Alzheimers disease.
Adverse Effects
1. Tyrosine has been known to cause anxiety, sleeplessness and restlessness for some people.
