The Benefits of Alcohol! - 12th April 2008
The question should be, are there really any benefits to drinking alcohol?
Well, with ongoing research in this field, various arguments have arisen telling us the pros and cons of drinking; red wine is supposed to be good for your heart, but too much is bad for your liver; alcohol can destroy brain cells but a tipple of whiskey can help with your chesty cough.
We are not going to hide the fact that the ShapeNoBull team are known for liking a glass or two of wine, so we have decided to find the positives in drinking, we came across research in this field from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston, a suvery was carried out with 1,850 people aged 65 and over;the results showed that alcohol selectively lowered types of LDL (the bad cholesterol) and increased the HDL (the good cholestrerol, which prevents fatty build up in the arteries) which protects from heart disease, these effects were greatest in those that had a moderate alcohol consumption.
So there you have it a positive in alcohol, but it's like anything too much of something can be a bad thing. We would really just suggest whatever the pros and cons of alcohol, you know your body better than anyone else, you know how much you can take the weird things you do when you have too much and you know the following day how you feel, so we would suggest whatever your preference just drink in moderation, but you knew that anyway!
Check out the Milk Thistle to help with the morning after feelings, it will give you a clean out.
