Gym: Friend or Foe - 16 Nov 2010
There are some people in this world that have this phenomenal and amazing ability to continuously train, they are in the gym all most everyday and sometimes even twice a day; they train even through the rough, tough and goods of life.
It appears that these people can't live without the gym. I was inspired to write this article because I bumped into my neighbour in the week, we chatted about his training and the way he spoke he was so passionate about training and he admitted he can not give up the gym.
For some the gym is insanity and it hurts to be in there just the thought of going on a treadmill could make some turn to a beer, while others it would cause insanity if they didn't go.
While some get up at 5.30am to get into the gym and burn off last nights dinner and build beautiful lean muscles, others would rather get an extra 40 winks and think about what they'll have for lunch that day. For some it is necessity, like water and clothing. While others it is as annoying as knocking over a full pint you have just paid for.
It really depends how you view the gym: it is either friend or foe. We all go through phases training 4/5 times a week and eating healthily. Then there are other periods when you have to peel yourself out of the bed and sob as you to sit on the stupid bike. But this negativity is all in the mind, when on 'form' I adore the gym and dont want to leave, I record all my achievements and next time I go I compete with myself; I have to do one more rep than before or take a couple more steps further on the treadmill.
I realise that those who have go to the gym regularly they enjoy because they see the benefits, they have the mental ability to change their health and their body shape. While Mr 40 winks may have not been to the gym or succeeded in his training so thinks it is a waste of time, but once you start to see health benefits and notice changes there is nothing but positives about going to the gym.
It is simple all you need to do is change the way you think of the gym, we all need to see it as our new best friend.
